Heritage Volunteering Conference 2026

The HVG Conference 2026 brings together colleagues from across the heritage sector for two days of learning, connection, and sector‑wide inspiration.
This year’s theme, ‘From Passion to Purpose: Volunteer Engagement in a Changing World’, explores what effective volunteer engagement looks like today and how we deepen the impact volunteers make across heritage organisations.

Our partners at the Heritage Volunteering Group (HVG) are running a workshop centred around exploring pathways within volunteer engagement in the heritage sector.
Tamsin Russell will lead the session, providing you with an opportunity to reflect on your drivers and motivations, assess yourself against key roles within the sector and hear from those who have successfully navigated this in their own careers.
The workshop is free to attend and is perfect for anyone thinking about their long-term careers.

Public Policy for Volunteer Managers – An Introduction

This interactive session from AVM takes you through how public policy and regulations are made, helping volunteer managers consider how they can understand and influence policy decisions.

Advanced Volunteer Management Symposium (AVMS) 2026
From 27 October 2026 | 5 week course | Online via Zoom
AVMS is designed for those leading volunteer engagement at a strategic level – people who often carry significant responsibility but don’t always have access to specialist development or a peer community that understands the complexity of their role.
This year’s theme – Rising to the Moment: Why leading volunteer engagement isn’t like building flat-pack furniture – will be led by Dr Helen Timbrell, Martin J Cowling, Rob Jackson, Laura Hamilton and Tracey O’Neill.
98% of previous attendees said the symposium changed their practice, making it a fantastic development opportunity for organisations of all sizes.
