Volunteer Inductions – The Good, The Bad and What They Could Be

January 29th, 2026 | 9:30am – 11:30am | £27.00 – £43.00

Our partners at AVM are hosting a session on how to design effective, engaging volunteer inductions that set people up for success from day one.

The session will explore what truly makes a good induction, how to secure senior leadership buy-in, and practical steps for developing an induction package that feels welcoming, purposeful and volunteer-centred.

Attendees will also hear case studies from two charities that have recently overhauled their approach, sharing the impact and lessons learned.

Speakers include Karen Gurney (Volunteer Development and Experience Manager at Oxfam) and Dan Smith (Volunteering Development Manager at Noah’s Ark).

AVM members can get discounted tickets, but if you’re not a member, don’t worry! Anyone interested can join the AVM to gain access to this event along with a range of other member-only benefits.

Open Data Infrastructure for Volunteering Hackathon

3rd & 4th December | 10am to 5pm | London

The Developing an Open Data Infrastructure for Volunteering and Social Action programme is creating a new open data standard designed to make volunteering opportunities easier to share and discover. This initiative is supported by DCMS and delivered by the Open Data Institute with Do IT and TeamKinetic.

The two-day event will gather volunteer platforms, developers and community organisations to test the first draft of the standard and see how open data can improve connections across the sector. Attendees will tackle practical challenges, explore data flows between systems and share ideas on what a more joined-up volunteering ecosystem could look like.

Travel support of up to £50 is available, and a £500 prize will be donated to a charity chosen by the winning team. Anyone interested in helping build a fairer and more open approach to volunteering data is welcome to register their interest.
