Nominations for the King’s Award for Voluntary Service are now open! This Royal Award celebrates outstanding volunteer groups who are a source of pride and inspiration within communities across the UK.
Equivalent to an MBE, the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) is the highest award given to local voluntary groups in the UK.

How do you nominate a group for a KAVS?
The process for nominating a group is simple:
Step 1: Use the eligibility criteria to make sure the group is eligible for an award and you are eligible to nominate.
Step 2: Consider information about your chosen group such as their contact information, the group’s impact in your local community, and what makes the volunteers so impressive.
Step 3: Set up a KAVS nominator account – it only takes a minute.
Step 4: Get in touch with two other people who would be able to supply letters of support for the group.

‘Cinderella sector’? Cinderella had it easy compared with the Scottish third sector
Have you heard the third sector referred to as the ‘Cinderella Sector’? It gets its name from being neglected by the government and falling low in its list of priorities.
Well, this article from Alex Fleming suggests it’s not a fair comparison, highlighting the challenges and immense pressure to provide vital services with limited resources, an unpredictable funding landscape, and little recognition from the government.
Let us not forget, that Cinderella ended up going to the ball. Sadly, there will be no such fairy-tale ending for the third sector, unless we see meaningful change in the ways it is structured and funded.
Did Cinders have it easier?
