Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) Business School have announced that they will be running an inaugural conference on the management of Sports Volunteering in partnership with TeamKinetic.

The conference titled Turning Potential into Legacy has been planned for September 10th 2014. Although we are not yet able to announce a full lineup of speakers, we can confirm a fabulous venue.

The conference is aimed at organisations and individuals who have a role in recruiting, managing and deploying volunteers as well as those with a strategic view of volunteer development.

Catherine Elliott – Senior Lecturer, MMU Sports Management said:

“We want to create a place where volunteering can be examined and debated in a professional manner. We want to start the conversation to examine the role of the Volunteer so we can start to evaluate the value and potential. We want it to reflect the dynamism of the volunteer space, with practical workshops and lots of real-world experience being discussed.

MMU have been using TeamKinetic for years and in this time, have seen a huge increase in student participation in work placements and volunteering.

Steve Mansfield, Principal Lecturer, Department of Management said:

“From the Manchester Commonwealth Games legacy through to London 2012, the rise of the Volunteer phenomenon is something (from a business perspective) which needs further examination. We wanted to look at the value if people giving their time and it’s potential as a disruptive force.”
