It was fantastic to see so many of you there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sessions focused on what comes after volunteer recruitment. From reward and recognition, to reporting and the future of digital in volunteering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We heard from&#8230; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gethyn Williams on <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1lfh1vH8Z3dEBfBAWLUrAuIz9cnU6lPTn\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">five key trends in volunteering<\/a> and where digital might help. From AI to open data and national online recruitment platforms, Gethyn covered some interesting stuff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, we had sessions from Amy Cole from Tempo and Andrew Newman from the ODI. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrew shared <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1JLV727CWSX7-YvpHc94m-sKFdQwwb_Q-\/view?usp=drive_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">how better data and AI could shape the future of volunteering<\/a>. He explored how open standards and shared infrastructure can connect communities, improve volunteer matching, and create more meaningful volunteer experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Amy <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1u9Gwsga9brkSy0565bbXqCx2-rbDmQQa\/view?usp=drive_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">introduced the Tempo Time Credit Programme<\/a>, showing how volunteers earn and spend credits to recognise their contributions and build stronger communities. She highlighted Tempo\u2019s growing network of partners across Wales and England and shared inspiring stories of how time credits improve wellbeing and bring people together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After lunch, we had some great sessions on measuring volunteer impact from Joanne Irvine, and Will Watt (State of Life).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will explored the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1wtylk5DzmL7iBdyWHMsaw63Vu409YGzq\/view?usp=drive_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">economic and behavioural science behind volunteering<\/a>, showing how it boosts wellbeing, community trust, and social value. He discussed the GIVERS model of volunteer motivation and how behavioural insights, like simple nudges and gratitude, can enhance engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joanne, on the other hand, discussed how organisations can boost volunteer retention and <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1ypx26D4ELWkzc0fqS4gkQC9l5kxhE9pd\/view?usp=drive_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">capture real social impact through storytelling and participatory evaluation<\/a>. She highlighted her work with Glasgow Life, showing how involving volunteers in the process strengthens connections and aligns their work with organisational goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Into the final stretch now, and after a quick slot from Dr Helen Timbrell on her new course for Aspiring Heads of Volunteering (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/helen-timbrell-1800415_im-very-excited-to-share-news-of-this-new-activity-7377250722905563137-ZAy0?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAB7Q5FoB6ryuEbAMLHfenxTWNk60wVEHEhE\">check it out!<\/a>), we had our keynote from Tobi Johnson and Ruth Leonard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tobi and Ruth <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1ZeZ8adhVFFNTRd_E3rtuQikpWmNjCJLD\/view?usp=drive_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">compared volunteer management to gardening<\/a> &#8211; yes you read that right! They showed how adaptability, collaboration, and care help volunteers flourish. With practical tips on creating supportive environments, aligning goals, and embracing diversity. They warn that making volunteering mandatory undermines its voluntary nature and risks eroding its true value. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many are emphasising that volunteering should remain an act of compassion and connection, not compliance.
