The research investigates their engagement with volunteering, which is based on data from Ipsos\u2019 omnibus survey of secondary school pupils across Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Data<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Between 2019 &#8211; 2022 there appeared to be a decline in volunteering activity. The results showed that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Formal volunteering fell by 12 percentage points from 49% to 37%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Informal volunteering fell by 7 percentage points from 25% to 18%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These results may be indicative of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ukraine war, and the cost of living crisis on young people&#8217;s health and well-being. Other contributory factors may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Volunteering tasks being less suited to young people during crises.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>COVID-19 and the cost of living crisis restricting the spaces in which formal youth volunteering takes place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The closure of schools during COVID-19 which removed the positive influence of teachers in supporting young people\u2019s participation in volunteering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Demographic Impacts<\/h5>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/teamkinetic.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/email-images-600-\u00d7-600px-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12652\" width=\"458\" height=\"458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teamkinetic.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/email-images-600-\u00d7-600px-1.png 600w, https:\/\/teamkinetic.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/email-images-600-\u00d7-600px-1-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/teamkinetic.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/email-images-600-\u00d7-600px-1-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/teamkinetic.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/email-images-600-\u00d7-600px-1-88x88.png 88w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 458px) 100vw, 458px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Age<\/strong>: The formal volunteering participation rate for young people aged 17-18 was 68%, much higher than those aged 11-16.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gender<\/strong>: Girls and boys were equally likely to volunteer, both formally and informally, in 2022.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Deprivation<\/strong>: Young people living in the 20% most deprived areas of Scotland were less likely to volunteer formally than those in less deprived areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Long-term Health Conditions (LHCs)<\/strong>: Young people with LHCs had higher volunteering participation rates compared to those without LHCs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Faith groups<\/strong>: volunteering by young people of Christian faith has declined very significantly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.volunteerscotland.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Young-People-in-Scotland-2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download the full report here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sport England: What &#8216;Recover and Reinvent&#8217;
